A. He explored parts of Canada for England, whose rulers used his trip to claim much of North America.

Giovanni Caboto (Born in 1450, died approximately in 1499), was an Italian explorer and navigator, best known for his voyages to North America, which later enabled English's rulers to claim much of it.

On March 5, 1496, King Henry VII of England authorized Giovanni Cabot to voyage in search of unknown lands to give to England. And on May 1497 Cabot, along with his 18 crew-men, traveled by sea from Bristol, England. His intention was to get to Asia, but instead, he landed on the east coast of North America, what now is part of Canada.
