Glucose is an important energy source of the body but it's too large to cross the cell membrane via simple diffusion. It can, however, be assisted to move across the cell through two types of active transport and facilitated diffusion. Through facilitated diffusion, carrier protein bind to glucose and change its shape, so it can go across the other side of the membrane.
