I'm not sure how to work this out, please show me in steps

4(3)-4
4 multiplied by 3 subtracted by 4
4(3) = 12-4
12 + (-4)
the subtraction changes to addition making the 4 negative.
12 + (-4) = positive 8.
I'm not positive this is 100% correct though.
