  • b. built a major city with stone pyramids at Tikal on the Yucatan Peninsula
: The Mayans built large temples and palaces that were adorned with rich frescoes. One of the major Mayan cities was Tikal, whose stone palaces and pyramidal temples stood out.  Tikal was one of the largest Mayan cities. The Mayans, unlike the Aztecs and the Incas, did not have a capital, but independent cities that could be allied or rival, depending on their objectives. Tikal was the main Mayan city of the "classical era," its apogee began in the year 200 and was until the year 600.
  • d. understood the idea of zero as a number: The Mayans developed the zero as a reserved space around 350 AD, that is, six hundred years later. The reserved space was used to create calendaring systems. The Mayans had never used zero in their equations, although they had highly qualified mathematicians for this.
