you mean 60%of 5 1/2? that makes more sense...
i would do it like this:
\(\frac{60}{100}* 5\frac{1}{2}\)
(60% is the same as \(\frac{60}{100}\)
\(5\frac{1}{2}=\frac{11}{2}\)
(so that there is no confusion, i've put it into an improper fraction
now we can multiply:
\(\frac{60}{100}* \frac{11}{2}=\)
\(\frac{6}{10}* \frac{11}{2}=\)
\(\frac{3}{5}* \frac{1}{2}=\)
\(\frac{3*11}{10}=\)
\(\frac{33}{10}=\)
which is 3.3.
so 60% of 5 and a half is 3.3.
