One of the global events that the United states employed in the boycott of 1980 in response to the Soviet union's Invasion of Afghanistan was the summer olympics in moscow, U.S.S.R.

Explanation:

The United States of America carried on a boycott on the 1980 summer Olympic games held in Moscow, to manifest their opposition and protest against the Soviet Union's actions in the invasion of Afghanistan. It was proposed in the early 1980 and was supported by 65 nations. The first of Great Britain and Australia.

The nation executed the boycott among many other actions because they were against the actions of Soviet Leader Leonid Brezhnev who said the Afghanistan intervention was going to be quick and uncontested, but he also called the former US. President Jimmy Carter too focused on solving the situation of the hostages in Iran. That lead the U.S. president to plan actions against them and the NATO alliance supported them because the Soviet Union failed its objectives and worsen the situation.
