Why did most Irish Americans favor neutrality?

AIreland did not take sides in the war.

BThey were afraid for their relatives in Ireland.

CThey had a long-standing hostility toward Britain.

DThey had a long-standing friendship with Germany. It's not A or B so which would it be? I just can't seem to figure it out. :(
