Let's break down the problem step-by-step to determine how much Ben pays for his car parking.

1. Convert the Arrival and Leaving Times to Hours:
- Ben arrives at the car park at 2:15 pm.
- To convert this to hours, we note that 15 minutes is a quarter of an hour. Therefore, 2:15 pm is equivalent to:
\(\[ 2 + \frac{15}{60} = 2.25 \text{ hours} \]\)
- Ben leaves the car park at 4:45 pm.
- To convert this to hours, we note that 45 minutes is three-quarters of an hour. Therefore, 4:45 pm is equivalent to:
\(\[ 4 + \frac{45}{60} = 4.75 \text{ hours} \]\)

2. Calculate the Total Parking Duration:
- To find out how long Ben parked, we subtract the arrival time from the leaving time:
\(\[ 4.75 \text{ hours} - 2.25 \text{ hours} = 2.5 \text{ hours} \]\)

3. Determine the Cost Based on the Parking Duration:
- According to the car park charges:
- Up to 2 hours: £3.00
- 2 to 4 hours: £4.00
- More than 4 hours: £5.00

- Since Ben parked for 2.5 hours, which falls in the "2 to 4 hours" category, the cost for parking is:
\(\[ £4.00 \]\)

Therefore, Ben pays £4.00 for his car parking.
