Final answer:

Fantasy coffins, crafted in whimsical shapes, are a unique tradition among the Ga people of Ghana, serving as a focal point in extravagant funerals.

Explanation:

Fantasy coffins, also known as figurative coffins, are popular among the Ga people in the Ga region of Ghana. These unique coffins are crafted into various whimsical shapes such as cocoa pods or animals, departing from traditional coffin designs.

The practice of creating fantasy coffins began in the mid-20th century, starting with Seth Kane Kwei who originally crafted palanquins for festivals then transitioned to making fancifully-shaped coffins.

Today, these coffins are a focal point in lavish funerals, typically carried by pallbearers in a procession before being buried, presenting a blend of artistry and cultural tradition.
