Final answer:

Platelets are cell fragments that play a crucial role in blood clotting. After an injury, they stick together to form a plug and prevent blood loss before being removed by macrophages.

Platelets, also known as thrombocytes, are cell fragments involved in blood clotting. After an injury, platelets stick together and form a plug at the site of injury to stop blood loss. Eventually, platelets are phagocytized by macrophages after about 10 days.
