Final answer:

Shift briefing, head count of inmates, and going through security are vital initial tasks for correctional officers at a private prison.

Explanation:

Take part in shift briefing would typically come first on a workday for a correctional officer at a private prison. During this briefing, officers receive important information about ongoing situations, assignments, and safety protocols.

'Head count' of inmates is also a crucial task that correctional officers must perform regularly to ensure the safety and security of the facility by accounting for all inmates present.

Go through security would be an essential step before starting the actual duties to ensure that officers are ready and authorized to enter the prison premises.
