Viscosity in motor oils is essential, with SAE ratings guiding oil selection. Multigrade oils like SAE 20W/50 blend properties for temperature versatility. Additives play a key role in viscosity control.

Explanation:

Viscosity is a crucial property in motor oils, with SAE ratings indicating the oil's flow characteristics. Single-grade oils can present issues due to varying viscosities at different temperatures, leading to the development of multigrade oils like SAE 20W/50. Additives are used to modulate intermolecular interactions, controlling viscosity. Overuse of additives can mimic problems seen with highly viscous single-grade oils.
