\(\sf-(k+9)-8=-4k-9\)

Distribute -1 into the parenthesis:

\(\sf-k-9-8=-4k-9\)

Combine like terms:

\(\sf-k-17=-4k-9\)

Add 17 to both sides:

\(\sf-k=-4k+8\)

Add 4k to both sides:

\(\sf3k=8\)

Divide 3 to both sides:

\(\sf~k=\dfrac{8}{3}~or~2\dfrac{2}{3}\)
