Taryn says that 1/4 of a ceral bar is larger than 1/3 ceral bar. Is she correct? Explain.
To find whether a fraction is bigger or smaller then another you first find the Least Common Denominator between the two. A simple way to do this is to take the denominators and multiply them together, and then take the numerator and multiply it by the opposite denominator to get a fraction equivalent for the new denominator. For this you start with 4 times 3 to get the new denominator of 12. Next you take 4 and multiply it by the numerator for the fraction \(\frac{1}{3}\) then take 3 and multiply it by the numerator of \(\frac{1}{4}\) to get the two new fractions \(\frac{3}{12} and \frac{4}{12}\). Then from here you determine if the numerator are the same and if not the aren't equivalent fractions.
