let the length of side of the square be a

by the Pythagoras theorem a^2 + b ^2 = c^2

taking b=a, a^2 + a^2 =2a^2

= a\(\sqrt{2}\)

a\(\sqrt{2}\)= 8

2a^2 = 64

a^2 = 32

a = \(\sqrt{32}\)

a = 4\(\sqrt{2}\)
