vertical angles are congruent...they equal each other.
2x + 1 = x + 36
2x - x = 36 - 1
x = 35

m < B = 2x + 1 = 2(35) + 1 = 70 + 1 = 71 degrees
m < D = x + 36 = 35 + 36 = 71 degrees
so m < B and m < D both equal 71 degrees
