This is done at the Alasitas festival (in the aymara language alasitas means "buy" or "exchange"), which is celebrated every January 24th.
During this festival people buy miniature objects that represent the things they want (for example, a house, a car, a child) and to make them come true they are offered to the god of wealth Ekeko (this was originally done before the arrival of the Spaniards), however, with the arrival of Catholicism and due to the cultural and religious mix, a Catholic priest also does the role of blessing those miniatures.
All this is done by people because they hope that with these blessings their wishes come true soon.
