The Thompson family pays the same hourly rate for Stacy or Michael.how many children are in the Thompson family

Step-by-step explanation: Given that Stacey and Michele both babysit in the evening. Stacey's hours rate is $10 for one child plus $2 per additional child and Michael hourly rate $8 for one child plus $3 per additional child.

We are to find the number of children in the Thomson family if they pay the same hourly rate for Stacy and Michael.

Let the number of children in the Thomson family be denoted by n.

Then, according to the given information, we have

$10+2\times(n-1)=8+3\times(n-1)\\\\\Rightarrow 10+2n-2=8+3n-3\\\\\Rightarrow 2n+8=3n+5\\\\\Rightarrow 3n-2n=8-5\\\\\Rightarrow n=3.$

Therefore, there are three children in the Thomson family.

Thus, the number of children in the Thomson family is 3.
