The correct answer here is A. The Meiji Restoration opened
fully Japan to the world and the Meiji emperor (Meiji meaning enlightened) sent
his people all over the world in order to acquire advance technology and fresh
ideas back to Japan. But this was not done in order to fundamentally change
Japan. No, it was done to strengthen it. The goal was to retain their
traditional values while enhancing themselves with the best of what the world has
to offer.
