The Embargo Act of 1807 was an attempt to retaliate the British approach of American trade to Europe. The war between France and the United Kingdom forced the British empire to use an aggressive method of dealing with its former colony which assaulted the honor and dignity of the new nation. The Embargo stopped all exports of American goods and prohibited American ships from leaving for foreign ports.
To answer this question lets take a look at each assumption:
Increased International competition - False - It reduces drastically the American economy, highly dependent on international export and international goods. In any matter, it increased American international competition.
Forced us to become more self-reliant - True - With the need of producing goods for themselves, Americans had to become more self-reliant in order to keep their production.
Decreased demand for workers - False - With the consequent reduction of exportation. From $49 million in 1807 to $9 million in 1808, we can affirm the demand for workers decreased.
Increased growth of factories - True - In a very limited sense, the Embargo Act developed a class of American entrepreneurs that helped New England in their manufacturing industries.
