Math 7 Grade 7

I need help with this question. Find the Error.

Raul is solving -6x = 72. Find his mistake and correct it.

Find his mistake.

Here is what Raul said : -6 x / 6 = 72/6

x = 12

I need an explanation for his mistake.

Show the correct way it should have been done. Also show the correct answer.

Verified Answer :

-6x= 72
You are supposed to divide both sides by -6 and not just 6. That was Raul's mistake
-6x/-6= 72/-6
X= -12

Raul's mistake was that he divided by +6 instead of -6. He should have divided by -6 so that the x would be positive.

Correct Work:
-6x=72
-6x/-6=72/-6
x=-12
