On the issue of Mexican group's attack on Americans (in North of the Rio Grande United States), the Senate of the U.S voted to go to war with Mexico. But the Northern lawmakers were worried that a war with Mexico could result in the United States gaining new areas in the Southwest, which would promote the expansion of Slavery as Mexicans claimed the land as their own territory.  

Although the Northern lawmakers questioned the necessity for war, at the same time they recognized the fact that how England's opposition to the War led to the destruction of the Federalist party. John C.
