The Battle of Fort Sumter (April 12–14, 1861) started the American Civil War. The battle was about the bombardment and surrender of Fort Sumter located near Charleston, South Carolina. In the previous conflict, South Carolina demanded the US Army to abandon its facilities in Charleston Harbor.
