The answer is D. When carbon-based fuels are burned, they emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that causes a greenhouse effect that increases global temperatures hence global warming. However, it is important to note that carbon dioxide is not the only carbon-based greenhouse gas. Methane too is a greenhouse gas, several times more potent than carbon dioxide. Reducing the emission of these greenhouse gases, therefore, mitigates the risk of global warming.
