Answer:

The correct answer is C. Since Fidel Castro stepped down due to illness, his brother, Raul, has taken the leadership of Cuba.

Explanation:

Fidel Castro began in public life as an opposition politician and stood out especially after the assault on the Moncada barracks in 1953, for which he was sentenced to prison. After being pardoned thanks to the pressure of public opinion, he went into exile in Mexico, where he planned the guerrilla invasion of 1956. He came to power after leading the Cuban Revolution, which triumphed on January 1, 1959, overthrowing the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. He was appointed prime minister on February 27 of the same year by President Manuel Urrutia. He led in 1961 the adoption of Marxism by the revolutionary government, establishing the first socialist state of the Americas. After the 1976 constitutional reform, he was elected president of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers. He was the founder of the Communist Party in 1965, and from then until 2011 he was its first secretary.

On February 19, 2008, in a letter published in the newspaper Granma, he announced that he would not present himself or accept the post of president and commander at the National People's Power Assembly meeting on February 24 of the same year.

Because of this situation, in 2008 Raul Castro took over the presidency of Cuba, a position that he had held in fact since 2006, due to the impossibility of Fidel Castro to perform his duties.
