Break out all the brackets and bring everything over to the left:
3 (2b + 3)^2 = 36
3 (4b^2 + 12b + 9) = 36
12b^2 + 36b + 27 = 36
12b^2 + 36b - 9 = 0
ab^2 + bb + c = 0
The quadratic equation:
-b +/- (square root of b^2 - 4ac)/ 2a
-36 +/- (square root of 36^2 - 412-9) /2*12
When this is plugged into a calculator is gives you:
-3+2root3/3 and -3-2root3/3 which is answer B
\(3(2b+3)^{2}=36\)
Dividing both sides by 3, we get:
\((2b+3)^{2}=12\)
Taking the square root of each side gives two possibilities:
\(2b+3= \sqrt{12} =+3 \sqrt{2} \ or\ -3 \sqrt{2}\)
From which we get:
\(b=\frac{-3+3 \sqrt{2} }{2},\ \frac{-3-3 \sqrt{2} }{2}\)
