The type of association that is shown by the cattle egrets and cattle is called Commensalism. This is because only the egret is benefited and the cattle is neither at a loss, nor benefited. If both the species would have benefited, then it would have been called Mutualism. I hope the answer has helped you.

Answer: Commensalism.

Explanation:

  • Commensalism is a type of relationship in which one of the organisms involved in the relationship benefits while the other is neither harmed nor benefitted.
  • In the relation between the cattle and the egret, the egret is getting benefitted by eating the insects that are flushed out by grazing cattle, however, the cattle is the one who is not affected from this relationship in any way.
  • Therefore, the association between cattle and the egret is an example of commensalism.
