Back then, the basic purpose for a guild is for the merchants to be able easier to do their trading, usually by creating rules/regulation about the trading territories.

Guilds were about making trades easier. That included trading in Urban Areas, creating rules and obtaining permissions, and so on.

Definitely, fights and revolutions were not their purpose. That being said, it's very unlikely that guilds would be revolting against the lords since they tended to negotiate with them, mostly.

The answer is:

Organized revolts against governing lords
