It is the only organ that is both hypoglycemic and hyperglycemia. Fatty acids are also transformed into complex lipid molecules (triglycerides) in order to store them in adipocytes (fat cells). It synthesizes or degrades cholesterol which is a hormone precursor and participates in the construction of cell membranes. The liver is also able to store fat-soluble vitamins.
