Sam stores manure for his farm in a rectangular box. The length of the box is 7 feet, The width is 9 inches, and the height is 6 inches. Each bag of Manure he bought contains 2.625 cubic feet of manure. How many bags of manure will fill the ox completely?
The number of bags of manure which will fill the box completely is:
One
We know that the volume of rectangular box with length(l), width(w) and height(h) is given by:
Volume=lwh
Here we have:
l=7 feet
w=9 inches=0.75 feet
( since, 12 inch=1 feet
Hence, 1 inch=1/12 feet )
and
h=6 inches=0.5 feet
Hence, the volume of the rectangular box is:
Volume= 7×0.75×0.5
i.e.
Volume=2.625 cubic feet.
Now, the number of bags of manure that will fill the box completely is:
Ratio of volume of box to Volume of 1 bag of manure
= 2.625/2.625
=1
Hence, only one bag of manure could be fit into the box.
