Immediately following World War II, the Korean Peninsula
Korea was divided into the North and the South with America
occupying the South and the Soviets occupied the North. Later the North tried to invade the South and
this led to the Korean War. It started along the 38th Parallel and
ended there. It was a draw and no side won the war. To this day both sides are still divided.
South Korea became democratic; North Korea became communist.
