% error = {|Approximate Value - Exact Value| ÷ |Exact Value|} 100%
The difference of the Approximate and the Exact Value is an absolute value. Therefore, the negative sign of the difference is disregarded.
1) Estimate = 250 g ; Actual = 240 g
(250 - 240)/240 100% = 10/240 100% = 4.17%
2) Estimate = 97.5°C ; Actual = 100°C
(97.5 - 100)/100 100% = |-2.5|/100 100/% = 2.5%
3) Estimate = 10.4 ml ; Actual = 9.7 ml
(10.4 - 9.7)/9.7 100% = 0.7/9.7 100% = 7.22%
4) Estimate = 0.156 cal/g°C ; Actual = 0.185 cal/g°C
(0.156-0.185)/0.185 100% = |-0.029|/0.185 100% = 15.68%
5) Estimate = 62.5 g ; Actual = 65.2 g
(62.50 - 65.20)/65.20 100% = |-2.7|/65.20 * 100% = 4.14%
