Read the following excerpt from a student essay. How can the writer best improve his or her grammar and mechanics?

"Over the summer, I had the opportunity to meet with local writer Abby Larsen. Abby has published three books and lives in Stamford. She took the time to meet with me and give me advice on how to be a writer. "Get rid of your television"! she exclaimed. "If you want to be a writer" she said "you must do two things: write a lot and read a lot". She recommended that I write every single day and also try to find my own voice. "Don't steal someone else's style", she advised. "You'll just end up sounding like an imitation". I enjoyed talking with Abby and will definitely follow her suggestions to improve my writing."
