Young Goodman Brown and The Man in the Black Suit both are very similar stories in terms of tone, plot, and overall conflict--in fact, it's known that King himself sees his story as an homage to Hawthorne's original tale. In both stories, a character meets a figure who can easily be identified as the Devil and subjects the character to emotional/psychological harm, eventually leading the character to internal crises of faith.

In a brief essay of no less than three paragraphs, explain the similarities and differences between the two, culminating in a discussion about which story is better crafted in creating its internal and external conflicts. You need to create a simple thesis (not specific, but expressing purpose of paper).

You can use a simple template like this:

Paragraph 1: Similarities

Paragraph 2: Differences

Paragraph 3: Which is most effective at using its elements to create conflict?
